Unfortunately, it drives me nuts. Nothing too mind blowing. Took a few listens for this album to grab me. It's very clever, really. It makes it hard to listen to this when you feel like your listening to some garage band on a tape recorder. I get that. It is cool to hear another band embracing some black-sabbath like music. There are some weak points in the song writing, and I wouldnt say that they are very original.
so who knows. If you want to have your record sound like a live album. I guess. I still like them, but without much range, I can't see these guys keeping things too interesting to make very many memorable albums, but hey mastodon can pull it off. Same goes for the guitars.
In all honesty, there are a handful of songs on here that truly rock, and a handful that dont interest me. What do ya say fellas. Listen, I know these guys were going for the "raw" live, or classic rock feel. Pretty boring. My hat goes off to this producer. This is a good record to either download, or find for $5 in the discount bin. release a live album, and your studio album.
I think the only thing keeping me from really liking this a lot more is the production. Because noone has ever attempted to do that. let's maybe use some of the great technologies developed, even in the last 20 years, and make a studio album. Enjoy. Dont know if I would spend the usual $15 or whatever these people think a plastic disc is worth these days. Im new to the sword. No, seriously.
The vocals can seem a bit monotone after a while.
And for Amazon's current price of $5 for high-quality, non-DRM MP3s. However, this album is obviously more mature, complex, better-recorded and -played - and comes with gobs and gobs of osmium-heavy layered, crunching chords. You might just discover one of the best new metal bands to come along in years. I loved The Sword's first album. This one continues along the same vein - no huge surprises here musically. how can you go wrong.
These guys rock. Howard, DnD and who knows what else. I'm so sick of all this stuff out now with "cookie monster" vocals - I'm so glad to have found The Sword. Love it. Sabbath meets, pre-Black Album Metallica with lryics inspired by Robert E. So great to hear new, good metal.
There's nothing original here nor anything especially sophisticated, though they do display some subtle dynamics. If so, check it out. From beginning to end.Either you think the riffs rock or you don't. The songwriting centers almost entirely on the series of riffs and Sabbath style melodies and harmonies. Listen to "Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians," the finest track here, and one of the most pure headbangers in recent memory.
They are a straight up, pounding doom/stoner throwback group with a bit of thrashy intensity thrown in. The vox are a limited, thin croak (though with a surprising number of hooks thrown in) and the drumwork is pure thunder. Anyway, it rocks like all hell. If you think that rules, you will likely think it all rules. The Sword defy any serious, considered analysis.
They're sometimes bluesy, sometimes more purely metallic and driving. I do, almost without exception.
many metal influences to be found on this cd. very cool. very sabbathy- one friend thought it slightly redundant, they're opening for mettalica what else do you need to know.
